We provide comprehensive services to complete a job from
start to finish—you only have to give us the "go
ahead". We perform the initial inspection of the UST
to determine if it is leaking. If it is not leaking, we will
provide you with a certification report of our findings, and
there is no further obligation. Our fee for inspections is
based on geographical location and the size and accessibility
of the Underground Storage Tank (UST), but the fee usually
does not exceed $500.
If the tank is found to be leaking, we will perform the reporting
to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ)
and secure authorization from the VDEQ for additional investigative
or cleanup work. We will then perform whatever corrective
action that the VDEQ requires, having first secured pre-approval
for financial assistance through the Virginia Petroleum Storage
Tank Fund (VPSTF).
Required corrective action activities may range from simply
removing the petroleum from the tank and verifying that there
are no wells or surface water bodies nearby, to removing the
tank and excavating/removing contaminated soils. If a well
or surface water body is threatened by the release, the VDEQ
may require a groundwater investigation in order to protect
these resources. If a drinking water well has been impacted,
the VPSTF provides for water filtration or a new alternative
source of water.
Whatever the case, Pollard Environmental scientists and engineers
are well-trained and experienced to properly address the situation.
When the corrective action is complete, PE will provide you
with a report of activities and findings, and the VDEQ will
provide a closure letter for your records.
